About this tool
Before a trip, it helps to know roughly what the fuel will cost. This calculator works it out from the distance, your vehicle’s fuel economy and the price of fuel.
Enter the three figures — keeping the units consistent — and it shows how much fuel you’ll use and the total cost. It is handy for budgeting road trips and comparing routes or vehicles. Everything runs in your browser.

What units should I use?
Keep them consistent — miles with miles-per-gallon and price per gallon, or kilometres with km-per-litre and price per litre.
How is the cost calculated?
Fuel used is distance divided by fuel economy; the cost is that fuel multiplied by the price per unit.
