About this tool

“Ideal” body weight formulas were originally created to help with medication dosing, and they remain a handy rule of thumb for a healthy weight range based on your height. Because several formulas exist, this tool shows four of the most common — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — so you get a range rather than a single figure.

These estimates use height and sex only, so they can’t account for build, muscle mass or body composition. Treat them as a guide, not a medical target. All calculations run in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why four formulas?

There's no single definition of "ideal" weight. Showing Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi gives you a sensible range rather than one number.

Is this a health target?

It's a rough guide based on height alone. It ignores build, muscle and body composition, and is not medical advice.
